Appalachian Mission

Dewey and Kathie Aiken are mobilization missionaries with North American Mission Board assigned to work with Baptists on Mission of NC. They serve as on- site coordinators for three national partnerships including the Appalachian Coalfields Ministry, Pennsylvania/ South Jersey and New England.
Using their home in Brevard, NC as a base for ministry during the winter months, Dewey and Kathie travel throughout the mountains of West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky. During the warmer months of the year, they work with churches and church plants in PA, VT, NH, MA and ME . Within the ten states of their ministry, there are scores of ministry centers, churches, church plants and associations that use the skills of thousands of volunteers each year. As the Aikens visit ministries, they prayer walk towns, discuss needs and offer encouragement to ministry leaders. The Aikens assist in linking mission teams and long-term volunteers to work alongside these churches to share the gospel and meet needs. They speak in churches and missions conferences to inform others of the need for workers throughout all three areas. While in NC, being encouragers in a small mountain church and community is another rewarding part of Dewey and Kathie’s life. They also will be assisting to coordinate some of the home rebuild process after Hurricane Helne. They enjoy their family as they have three grown children and eight grandchildren, all living in North Carolina.
